20 iPad Tips & Tricks You Should Know

- Decrease or increase text size
Go to settings and click Display & Brightness > Text Size. Adjust the slider to alter the size of text based on your preference.
- Shake to undo
You can shake your iPad to remove the text you typed. Shake the device once to the left and back. A button labeled “Undo Typing” will appear and all you need to do is to tap it. Any recently typed text will be deleted.
- Close apps
To access the multitasking tray or app switcher, double press the Home button and swipe up on the apps that you want to close. It is possible to close up to 3 apps at the same time.
- Battery Percentage
The battery level is displayed in the upper right corner of the status bar by default. You can monitor the charge remaining in the iPad by activating the battery percentage indicator that shows the battery left in percentage. Go to Settings > General > Usage. Click the Battery Percentage toggle to activate it.
- Delete or move apps on the Home screen
Tap and hold on the icons for a few seconds and wait for them to wiggle. Drag them to the spot you prefer. You can drag an app to the edge of the screen to move it to a different page. If you want to delete an app, you can tap on the small cross located in the corner of the app. For the icons to stop shaking, press the Home button.
- Do not disturb
Activate the Do Not Disturb toggle if you want to silence your device. Go to Settings and tap Do Not Disturb. Click the Manual toggle or schedule it. Alerts and calls will be silenced once it is activated. A moon icon will be displayed in the status bar.
- Control Center
Control Center provides you with immediate access to music controls, camera, AirPlay and alarm. It also allows you to disable or enable system toggles and adjust the brightness of the device. Swipe up from the screen’s bottom edge to access the Control Center.
- Apple ID without credit card
An Apple ID without a credit card allows you to download free applications so that you can control your expenses.
- Create and take calls from your iPad
With the Continuity feature, you can make or take calls from your iPad provided that they’re signed in to identical iCloud accounts and are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Special symbols
If you can’t find a special symbol on the iPad’s keyboard, just tap the $ key and hold it. A list of alternate currency symbols will appear.
- Begin a new sentence
Double tap the space bar. This trick allows you to add a period and begin a new sentence. Go to Settings and click General. Click Keyboard and see if the “.” Shortcut toggle is enabled.
- International keyboard
Add an international keyboard to your iPad by launching Settings and clicking General. Click Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard. Just click the globe icon located beside the space bar to switch into another language.
- Alter domain name extension
There’s a .com key to suffix your domain name extension and add other extensions. Click and hold on the .com key to see the extensions to choose from.
- Insert punctuations fast
Tap and hold on the 123 key and swipe on the keyboard to the punctuation marks you need in one swipe action. iOS will automatically revert to the alphabet keyboard once you choose the symbol or punctuation you want to add and release your finger.
- Type capital letters right away
Click the Shift key and slide your finger to the key you wish to type in one swift move. The Shift key will be disabled once you release it.
- Type smart quotes
Long tap the quote key and you will be able to input the curved alternatives of quotation marks.
- Split keyboard
You can type using two thumbs through the split keyboard. It can be in the middle of the screen or at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the Keyboard button located at the bottom right corner of the iPad’s keyboard. Click Split to activate the split keyboard.
- Access drafts fast
Long press the compose button located at the top right corner of the device. A popup containing your drafts will appear.
- “Will” contractions
If you want to type contractions such as “we’ll,” but the device doesn’t autocorrect your “well,” you only need to add another “l.” The keyboard will recommend “we’ll.”
- Hidden keys
The empty space you see when you use the split keyboard contains extra keys according to the normal QWERTY layout.
